The tax-free threshold for individual tax payers will rise from $6,000 to $18,200 from 1 July, meaning no tax will be payable on the first $18,200 of income.

Changes to the Low Income Tax Offset means that for some low income earners the effective tax free threshold will be higher.

Other changes to personal tax arrangements from 1 July include means testing the private health insurance rebate and removal of the Queensland flood levy.

The Government has announced a lengthy list of personal and business tax changes to operate from 1 July 2012. It has also announced changes to some benefits and employment requirements, which in some cases impact on employer requirements.
