FBT RETURN REQUIREMENTS

Saturday, 29 April 2017

The Australian Tax Office (ATO) has issued a reminder that businesses can only lodge their 2017 Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) returns electronically through the Practitioner Lodgment Service (PLS).
From 2017 tax practitioners can only lodge clients' 2017 Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) returns electronically through the Practitioner Lodgment Service (PLS).

The due dates for lodgment of 2017 FBT returns for all tax agents are:
• 25 June 2017 if the return is lodged electronically
• 21 May 2017 if the return is lodged by paper.
The due date for payment under the lodgment program remains 28 May 2017.
When a due date for lodgment falls on a weekend or public holiday, you can lodge or pay on the next business day.
If your clients don't need to lodge an FBT return for 2017, you must lodge an FBT non-lodgment advice form through the portal, the ATO said.
